Defense Technology for Modern Tactical Communications
Defense Communications

Etherstack
Over the past two decades, the role of software in tactical communications has increased exponentially. This increases capability, but also brings additional complexity in developing, acquiring, deploying, and using equipment and systems.
Etherstack helps manufacturers and defense organizations navigate this. We take responsibility for the specification and development of underlying components in a tactical system, allowing our clients to concentrate on issues relevant to end users such as requirements, architecture, form-factor, delivery, training and support.
Technology Licensing, Technology Transfer and Specialist Services
Etherstack licenses NATO STANAG waveforms to nations and radio manufacturers with access to NATO standards. We also license sovereign waveform development tools, and provide waveform research, specification, development, integration and support services to key nations internationally.
Our aim is to provide dedicated technical support of the highest quality to our customers to enable successful outcomes, lower costs, and reduce risk and time to market. Etherstack engineers possess decades of experience in digital signal processing, embedded software design, RF and baseband hardware and crypto for defense radio communications. Some customers wholly rely on Etherstack to successfully complete radio development.
Etherstack works with all equipment vendors equitably. With over two dozen customers from the world’s leading radio manufacturers, and Etherstack waveforms ported to more than twenty radio platforms used in the field, Etherstack technology is proven to reduce costs and increase flexibility and interoperability in tactical communications.
Our aim is to minimize our customers’ costs, risk and time to market, whilst providing portable technology that is uniquely flexible, reusable and maintainable – and can be optimized for best performance on small and power constrained embedded radio platforms.
Waveform Test and Development Environment
Etherstack’s waveform development and test tools enable the development of reusable, platform-independent waveform software and simplify the complex task of porting, testing and maintaining radio equipment. These tools also hasten and de-risk the integration and deployment of defense radio communications systems.
Outsource Your Risk
Control your development time and costs – Etherstack have never failed to deliver technology according to the original fixed development price. Ongoing services are included through to deployment of final product in the field.
Reconfiguration and Framework Architecture Standards
Etherstack waveforms intrinsically maximize the benefits of SDR. Our focus is providing waveforms to manufacturers building commercial, often SWaP constrained, radio equipment to allow them to reap the practical benefits of reusable, maintainable code. Porting a well-designed waveform to framework architectures such as the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) is straightforward. All Etherstack waveforms are available in a native version for traditional radio platforms, and in versions for framework architecture standards on SDR platforms. Our automated test environment is also fully compatible with the SCA, allowing testing of SCA waveform resources across their SCA ports both on and off the hardware platform.
SDR Transceiver Platforms & Tactical Communications Solutions
In addition to waveforms, Etherstack manufactures SDR transceiver, cryptographic and waveform signaling modules as well as providing specialized tactical communications solutions using the latest advances in terrestrial and satellite delivery systems.
International Reach
For over 20 years, Etherstack has maintained R&D and support centers in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Japan, allowing the company to be uniquely placed in scoping, building and deploying multinational defense projects with domestic resources.
